Summer Camp - Ocknickion  2015

7/4/2015

Summer Camp was just great, we had hardly any rain.  Good thing because some of our tents had holes in them.  Our patrol, the Falcons, did a great job erecting a gateway to the camp.  All the boys took advantage of the swimming pool and climbing tower.  Many of the scouts took shooting merit badges so they spent a good deal of time at the rifle range, but boy what it a hike getting up and down the steep hill to get there and return. The camp offers some great science merit badges like chemistry, astronomy, robotics and the scouts had a fun time with these merit badges.  Most of all the camp food was simply fantastic, probably the best I have eaten at summer camp for 40 years, in fact it was difficult not to gain any weight, which the is opposite of many camps. The troop at the end of the week came away with more troop camping awards than almost every troop at the camp, and we had only six scouts. I'm very proud of them, they worked very hard for them.  All in all every scout received the merit badges that they were planning to work for. Most Sincerely, Vince Rossi, Scoutmaster

We arrived at camp very early and almost immediately started to hike up the slight mountain slope.  The young scout were doing just great.  We hiked for about four miles and sat by the lake had had a lunch with freeze dried food.  All in all it was pretty good.  Some of us climbed higher to see a better view of the landscape while other hiked the lake.  We then took a long detour to get to base camp because James Malone doen's know how to read a map yet.  Thanks, to my dogged persistence (Vince)we arrive at camp before nightfall to set up camp.  The food was pretty good last night and all turned in early because we were exhausted and the wind was tremondous, the temperature this morning was reading at 25 with the wind chill factor and snowing. Mark, Hayden, Jacob and Matt did just a great job living up to the high standards of a scout.  Sincerely, Vince Rossi, Scoutmaster

We all had a great Time at our new Summer Camp,  It was the first camp attended where all the merit badges were air-conditioned.  The science lab under-written by major telecommunication companies have some of the best cutting edge merit badges that just came out.  The scouts really enjoyed the excellent food, and all come away with smiles on our faces and a load of merit badges.. Most Sincerely, Vince Scoutmaster

Summer Camp  June 30 to July 6

This summer the troop travelled to Camp Barton, for the first time in the history of the troop.  The camp is located near Ithaca, New York and sits next to one of the largest finger lakes.  The scout wanted to go there because of all the aquatic merit badges offered, such as motor boating, water skiing, sailing to mention a few.

We had five scouts attending and three adults.  Our camp site was very much like the camp sites at Hidden Valley, with walled tents, and a pavilion.  The scouts that attended were: Caleb Lynch, Ryan Gantz, David Scrignolli, Jonathan Malone, and Hayden Tierrney.  The leaders were: myself, Mrs. Lynch, Mr. Malone, and helping Mr. Tierrney and Mr. Don Bell.

On the camp grounds was one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Eastern United States, it was simply fantastic.  They even had great fire works for the fourth of July.  Everyone had a great camping experience and the scouts returned with a fistful of merit badges.

Scout Clean up

4/19/2013

Today, was scheduled to be a day where the troop would help out at St. Francis Soup Kitchen, however, the soup kitchen was closed that day. So we realized that there was still a lot of debris from the last major flood to hit Hummelstown, and saw that the banks of the creek of the Swatara near Hoss's Steak House could use a major clean up.  We had such a great turn out of scouts that day, and we spent three hours scouring the banks of the creek.  The scouts found all types of debris, besides all tires.  It turned out to be a really fun activity, and the restaurant was very appreciative of our efforts.  A big thank you goes out to all the scouts and scouters.  Vince

Scout Sunday for Troop 74 was celebrated at our Sponsoring Member - Trinity United Methodist Church on Feb. 17, 2013.  The Troop along with Pack 74 were the ushers and readers for the 8 a.m. worship Service.  For the 9:30 a.m. worship service the scout provided  all types of breakfast goodies, including donuts, cookies, etc. and various kinds of beverages.  Much of the thanks for the breakfast items goes out to Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Gantz.  The assistant scoutmasters, Mr. Bell, Mrs. Lynch, Mrs. Keiffer, and Mr. Oren did an excellent job supporting the scouts.  I understand the Pastor was quite pleased with the Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts participation.  Thanks to everyone who made this day special.  Vince

"Troop 74 again impresses in the sledding event" - Event Coordinator

Once again we had a successful Klondike.  The weather could no hold us back as 7 scouts attending Klondike 2013 at Tuckahoo Scout Camp. There were about ten boys and three leaders, myself, Mrs. Lynch, Mr. Oren, and with the help of Mr. Bell and Mr. Gantz.  The scouts did an excellent job at the scout skill stations, in fact we had a perfect score for seven of them.  The Scouts showed superb team work by winning the sled race at the end of the day, and when we got back to camp we shared in Mrs. Lynch's wonderful chili.  Thanks to all the scout, Vince
